BINGO!!! November 21, 2008
Posted by heatherhanley in : Clubs and Organizations, Owings Mills Campus , add a commentI wrote a week or so ago about the Vera Bradley Bingo being hosted my Phi Sigma Sigma..well some exciting news..I WON!!! I did not win a Vera Bradley bag but I did win a Longaberger basket filled with a ton of stuff.
The story..it was the first special game of the night, make the letter “H”. I joked to my boyfriend and said that I should win this since my name is Heather and begins with an “H”. I only needed about 8 more numbers to win so was not too excited. Then they called six of my numbers in a row!! I couldn’t believe it. When they called my final number I literally jumped up and screamed BINGO!!!!!! I was so excited when I went to dab my final number I actually missed my sheet and stamped the table!
I won the family fun night basket. It was a huge basket filled with all sorts of games. I was pretty excited because I thought to myself..now I have all sorts of Christmas presents to give to my younger cousins!
This was my first ever bingo win and it was very exciting!!!
Vera Bradley Basket Bingo! November 13, 2008
Posted by heatherhanley in : Clubs and Organizations, Ordinary Life of an SU Student, Owings Mills Campus , add a commentPhi Sigma Sigma, Stevenson University’s sorority that I mentioned in an earlier blog, is hosting a basket bingo fundraiser! It is going to be tomorrow, Friday 11/14 at 7pm on the second floor of the Rockland Center! Not only are there Longerberger baskets filled with goodies but they are also having several Vera Bradley bags filled with goodies! That’s a great bonus! You can purchase your tickets from any sorority member for $15 but if you get your tickets at the door tomorrow evening they will be $20. Make sure and get there early because if it’s going to be anything like it was last year people will be fighting for seats!
Pandini’s or SubConnection?
Posted by heatherhanley in : Owings Mills Campus , add a commentFor those of you who are freshman, incoming students, past alumni or just a random audience member and are not familiar with SubConnection or Panidini’s I’ll explain. SubConnection was new to the Owings Mills campus in the spring of 2006 when the Rockland Center (dining hall) opened. It is very similar to a Subway where one could order made-to-order subs. One meal swipe could get you a 6-inch sub, chips, fruit or cookies and a 20oz soda. Pre-made salads were also served but cash, credit card or flex dollars had to be used. SubConnection was open until 11 for those late night hunger strikes (I think that was when it was actually busiest). Pandini’s is a new addition to the Owings Mills campus and is located where SubConnection used to be. SubConnection has moved to the Greenspring campus in place of Campus Perks (real bummer in my opinion, I LOVED Campus Perks). Pandini’s serves many Italian dishes such as pizza, ciabatta sandwiches, calzones, several salads, bread sticks, pasta dishes and several desserts such as cheesecake, eclairs and cannolis. You can choose any one of these and a 20oz soda for a meal swipe and you have the option of adding a small Caesar salad for an additional meal swipe.
They are both delicious but I decided to survey several Stevenson University students to see which they preferred. I surveyed 15 students and it came back 11 to 4 in favor of SubConnection.
For those of you attending Stevenson University, students, faculty, staff or even if you have come for a visit, I would appreciate your comments on both SubConnection and Pandini’s. Which do you prefer and why?
SubConnection photos will be posted shortly ![]()
On-campus Job
Posted by heatherhanley in : Ordinary Life of an SU Student, Owings Mills Campus , add a commentMy roommate Katie is an employee of Pandini’s, you may remember from my earlier blog. She works about 25 hours a week as well as takes a 15 credit course load.
What is it like to have an on-campus job?
Nice, because you can walk to work and they are very flexible with your schedule if you need to call off for school work; school comes before your job.
Would you recommend others to get an on-campus job?
Yes. It is very convenient and they work with your schedule and that cannot be guaranteed at another job.
Additional comments:If you want to work for the dining hall, which I recommend if you are trying to earn some cash because you can work the most hours, then make sure you have good time management skills. It is very easy to get behind in your school work. Do not be afraid to tell them you have too much school work to do and need off or to be cut early, they will accommodate you.
Below is a video of Katie while working. I apologize that you need to turn your head sideways to watch the video, I was having trouble on YouTube trying to figure out how to rotate the video and was unsuccessful.
Ping Pong or Foosball Anyone? November 5, 2008
Posted by heatherhanley in : Ordinary Life of an SU Student, Owings Mills Campus , add a commentLooking for a place to escape to from your studies, unwind and hang out with friends? The Avalon Community Center is just the place! Located in the center of the Owings Mills campus, it has a very cozy and comfortable feel with warm colors and lounge furniture to relax on with friends. There are two ping pong tables and a foosball table to get some competitive games going. My friends and I particularly enjoy the ping pong tables and usually get a game or two in every day! Paddles are provided but you must purchase a ping pong ball for 25 cents. However, once you purchase one, it is yours to keep. The money collected from the ping pong balls is used to replace damaged paddles and to restock the ping pong ball machine and maintain any other recreational activities in the community center. You can also find a big screen TV where I have even seen students set up the game Rock Band and jam out in there or just enjoy a movie with a large group! There is also a pool table to play on as well. The community center also houses Jazzmans and Quick Stop where students can enjoy coffee or a smoothie or grab something quick to eat. It’s the perfect hang out after a long day hitting the books!
Stevenson Celebrates Halloween
Posted by heatherhanley in : Greenspring campus festivities, Owings Mills Campus , add a commentStevenson University’s dining hall got in the Halloween spirit by decorating the dining hall located in the Rockland Center with pumpkins, squashes and other ghoulish decorations. They hosted a how-to session on how to carve a pumpkin taught by Sodexho’s head chef. Those who attended were entered into a raffle where the first place prize was a free Meal Plan A for the spring 2009 semester! Outside of the dining hall a cotton candy machine was set up so student’s could enjoy a tasty snack after lunch!
At the Greenspring campus, scary Halloween music was played over the speakers in the Student Union where students and faculty enjoy eating. A Halloween parade was hosted at 12 noon on the Greenspring campus and all students and faculty who dressed up were encouraged to join in the parade around the quad. Costumes included Sarah Palin and husband, a penguin, a cowboy, witches, Sylvester and many more. It was so entertaining to see!
If students did not have previous Halloween plans, all were welcome to come to a Halloween bash Stevenson hosted that evening. Enjoy the pictures of Halloween, Stevenson style!

Owings Mills Library
Posted by heatherhanley in : Owings Mills Campus , add a commentThe School of Business houses a great law library that works perfectly for studying and has 24-hr access. There is a computer lab if the Internet or a computer is needed and there are tables set up throughout the library to sit at and quietly study. My favorite part of the law library are the private study rooms that say a group can use to work on a project. They are their own separate room within the library and they hold a long table and chairs and there is a door that can be shut to isolate noise that your group may make. I was in there this past Wednesday with a friend studying for an organic exam and it was great. Below is a picture of a Stevenson University student studying in the private study room
