BINGO!!! November 21, 2008
Posted by heatherhanley in : Clubs and Organizations, Owings Mills Campus , add a commentI wrote a week or so ago about the Vera Bradley Bingo being hosted my Phi Sigma Sigma..well some exciting news..I WON!!! I did not win a Vera Bradley bag but I did win a Longaberger basket filled with a ton of stuff.
The story..it was the first special game of the night, make the letter “H”. I joked to my boyfriend and said that I should win this since my name is Heather and begins with an “H”. I only needed about 8 more numbers to win so was not too excited. Then they called six of my numbers in a row!! I couldn’t believe it. When they called my final number I literally jumped up and screamed BINGO!!!!!! I was so excited when I went to dab my final number I actually missed my sheet and stamped the table!
I won the family fun night basket. It was a huge basket filled with all sorts of games. I was pretty excited because I thought to myself..now I have all sorts of Christmas presents to give to my younger cousins!
This was my first ever bingo win and it was very exciting!!!
Togas and Guitar Hero!
Posted by heatherhanley in : Clubs and Organizations , add a commentTogas and Guitar Hero, sounds like my kind of night! This is in reference to the volunteer activity I participated in that I wrote about earlier, CAACURH! I think all that attended can say that it was a huge success. I felt very helpful and had a lot of fun as a volunteer, I can’t imagine how fun the experience must have been for those who were actually in a position at the conference.
My roommate and I showed up at the hotel around 4pm and collected “spirit beads” from other colleges and university’s that entered the hotel. Now we weren’t exactly sure what the spirit beads were for but we do know that you wanted a lot and the school the earned the most spirit beads throughout the conference won some sort of prize. After counting and tallying the winner we were told to come back later to help with the after party.
The after party…this was a good time! Everyone came out dressed in togas with ivy in their hair and were ready to have a good time. There was an entire room with a DJ for dancing and there was a separate room with refreshments and snacks and GUITAR HERO set up on a giant monitor with loud speakers!! I was in charge of the sign up sheet and encouraging people to sign up, and believe me, it didn’t take much. I rocked out to songs like “Santeria” and “Beat It”..it was a lot of fun watching people jam on the guitars and belt it (some not that great) on the mic.
Although volunteering was fun, next year I would love to get involved on the committee and encourage many people to check it out!!

CAACURH stands for the Central Atlantic Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls and is composed of student leaders within the residence halls. A conference is held this weekend, all weekend, 11/14 - 11/16 at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Timonium. This is a great opportunity to get involved and meet students from other schools. Stevenson’s team needs any volunteers that are willing to help ensure that everything runs smoothly. If you are interested contact Brandy at bcannon@stevenson.edu or su_philanthropy@caacurh2008.com. It is going to be tomorrow, Friday 11/14 at 7pm on the second floor of the Rockland Center! Not only are there Longerberger baskets filled with goodies but they are also having several Vera Bradley bags filled with goodies! That’s a great bonus! You can purchase your tickets from any sorority member for $15 but if you get your tickets at the door tomorrow evening they will be $20. Make sure and get there early because if it’s going to be anything like it was last year people will be fighting for seats!
Student Athlete November 12, 2008
Posted by heatherhanley in : Clubs and Organizations , add a commentDebating whether or not to play a sport while attending SU? Don’t know if you can balance school work and crazy practice schedules or game schedules? Here’s an inside look from two student athletes, Brooke, a member of the SU varsity cross country team and Mike, a member of the men’s varsity baseball team.
What is your favorite part of being a member of an SU athletic team?
Brooke: The friends that I have made.
Mike: Probably my teammates, they’re my closest friends.
How do you manage school and practice/game/meet schedule?
Brooke: I try not to procrastinate and I am usually up pretty late.
Mike: I try to schedule my classes early in the day and I communicate well with my professors. However, it can be difficult to manage and you must have good time-management skills.
Was it easier to make friends as a member of an athletic team?
Brooke: Yes, it gives you a good base of friends.
Mike: Yes.
Most memorable experience as an SU athlete?
Brooke: Team dinners..always a good time.
Mike: Making it to the regional finals my sophomore year.
Would you recommend others to join an athletic team?
Brooke: Yeah, we need more runners.
Mike: Yes it’s a great opportunity to meet new people and stay fit..AVOID THAT FRESHMAN 15!!
They both seem to agree that being a member of an athletic team at Stevenson University is an awarding experience. I’m sure Wild Stang would agree!
Both of these pictures were taken from www.gomustangsports.com. Check out the website for more great athletic photos!

You have a choice of $10.00 for the year or $8.00 for the semester. At a meeting you can expect pizza and refreshments as well as conversation and discussion about upcoming events or feedback on recent events. The Accounting Association recently hosted Stevenson University’s Accounting Fair. The Accounting Fair is held every fall semester and all accounting majors are encouraged to attend. Sophomore, Junior and Senior accounting majors are advised to bring an updated resume to distribute to prospective employers. It gives all accounting majors a chance to speak to employers at different firms with a goal to land a job or internship. Freshman are encouraged to attend simply for experience and can pass out resumes’ if they choose. Member Matthew Zinner stated, “Approximately 35 firms attended the Accounting Fair this year and I would say it was an overall success.”
As an accounting major you are automatically a member of the Accounting Association and are simply expected to pay your dues in order to continue membership. For more information you can visit their website http://www8.vjc.edu/AccountingAssociation/
