Interested in skiing or snowboarding?
Posted by heatherhanley in : In the classroom , add a commentIn the spring 2009 semester, Stevenson University is offering a one credit physical education class where you learn how to ski or snowboard!! The course is made for all types of skiers and snowboarders..whether you’re a beginner or an expert! You are able to take lessons at three different ski resorts: Liberty, Roundtop or Whitetail. In order to pass the class and receive your one credit P.E. class you must attend 6 sessions with an instructor at any time that is convenient for you! That’s right, you go at your own leisure!
You must purchase a Night Club Card before beginning your lessons. You can purchase it for $214.00 if you have your own snowboard or set of ski’s but you must buy it before 11/6/08 to get the discount. If not then you must pay $239.00. If you do not have your own snowboard or ski’s then you can rent them for $249.00 before 11/6/08 or $274.00 after. All of these prices include your lessons and your lift pass.
My roommate and I were thinking about taking the class in the spring semester. We thought it would be so much fun to get a group of friends together every Friday night and go hit the slopes. If I were to register for this class (Physical Education 138-E1) then I would probably want to snowboard. I already know how to ski but would love to learn how to snowboard!

Costumes
Posted by heatherhanley in : Ordinary Life of an SU Student , add a commentHalloween is one of my favorite times of year. I love that the leaves are changing, the air is crisp and the fact that the first snow is just around the corner! As a child my family and I would prepare for Halloween beginning October 1st! Our house would be decorated inside and out and every one of us would dress up! The past few Halloweens as I began to get older I stopped dressing up. But this year I found a costume and friends and I are going out to celebrate.
It’s great having Party City just 5 minutes from the Owings Mills Campus. They have over 1000 costumes to chose from! This year I have decided to be a bumble bee! The costume is adorable and it comes with sparkly wings and headband antennas. My boyfriend has decided to be Lt. Dangle from Reno 911! He looks absolutely ridiculous! I cannot wait to post pictures. My roommate and her boyfriend are being pirates and my other roommate is being a Seaside Pin-Up and she looks so cute! All of us were able to find a costume that we liked at Party City. But if there wasn’t one that we liked, in the same shopping center as Party City there is a Joann’s Fabric. In there you can find costume making kits with step by step patterns and directions for making your own costume! Plus you can find the fabric you want in the same store! It’s fantastic!
I’ll post lots of pictures of Halloween night! Have fun!!!
Saw V October 29, 2008
Posted by heatherhanley in : Owings Mills Entertainment , add a commentIn order to prepare for Halloween, some friends and I thought there would not be a better idea than to go and see Saw V. Saw V premiered in theatres last Friday, 10/24. We decided to head over early and get the tickets so we would be guaranteed to see the movie. It started at 9:40pm and we decided to go over at 9pm to get good seats..of course thinking 40 minutes would be plenty of time. We strolled in expecting to get good seats somewhere in the middle towards the back. YEAH RIGHT! When we walked in and it was already packed! There were 5 of us and we did not think we were going to find 5 seats together unless we sat in the very front row practically leaning backwards to see the movie. We were lucky enough to find 5 seats together that weren’t in the front row but pretty close.
I was pretty excited to see the movie because I love the Saw series..I have seen every one in theatres. Saw V was pretty good..it was not as gorey as the others and I think I seem to prefer that more. This movie was more of an explanation of Saw I-IV. As always, the director comes up with more creative and horrifying ways to torture and harm someone. There was rumor that this was the last Saw but I sure hope not!
I LOVE my kitchen!

Computer Blues October 26, 2008
Posted by heatherhanley in : Ordinary Life of an SU Student , add a commentMy friends and I went out on Friday for a smoothie at the delicious Smoothie King located on Reisterstown Rd..we were gone for about 2 hours because we then decided to stop at the mall. When I returned I woke my computer up from sleep mode to blog about the VillaFest festivities from the weekend before (it took me a long time to get the pics/videos up..sorry guys but I had a HUGE school load this week) when a horrible message appeared! My screen was completely black and in white letters it read, “Operating System cannot be found”. I immediately began to panic. I tried pressing escape as well as frantically hitting a million other keys and the message just kept repeating itself down the page. I then powered my computer off hoping that restarting it would make the terrible message disappear..yeah right. I called Tech Connection and told them of my problem. They told me I needed to rush my computer to their office immediately because my computer was crashing and they needed to quickly retrieve all of my data off of it. This freaked me out even more but none the less I quickly packed up my laptop and rushed over to the Greenspring campus. Tech Connection is located on the third floor of the Academic Center. I walked in there frantically and they immediately knew who I was. They were great at keeping me calm, they cracked jokes and offered me candy to lighten my spirits. The end prognosis was that my computer was “on its death-bed” as they put it. There was no saying when my hard-drive was completely going to fry but they recommended to either send it away immediately or to go out and purchase a new computer. Of course I’m thinking, easier said than done. If I send it away I will be without a computer for probably a good 2 weeks to a month and it will cost a good bit of money but if I purchase a computer that’s a good $700-1,100 bucks I wasn’t planning to spend! Luckily, I spoke with my parents and they are going to help me out. Now it’s just a matter of choosing a new computer. Any suggestions? I was thinking about buying a Mac but I am not too familiar with them..does anyone have one? How do you like it? To say the least, it’s been a very stressful past couple of days. Hopefully the next few improve, although I have 2 exams on Tuesday so we’ll see. I’m trying to keep my spirits up!
